| Tourist | If you intend to stay in Norway/Schengen for less than 90 days to visit friends, family or business and/or for tourist purposes, you are advised to apply for a visa. Max period of stay is 90 days. The Embassy will decide on the application within five to ten working days after it has been submitted. If a visa is granted, it will normally be issued within these days. | | Residence and work permit | If you intend to stay in Norway for more than 90 days or if you intend to work, you are advised to apply for residence/work permit. Applications for residence permits will always be forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration for decision. A decision from the Directorate of Immigration in Oslo can normaly be expected within time limits given by the Directorate. | | Getting married in Norway | If you intend to get married to a Norwegian while in Norway, you are advised to apply for a residence/work permit even if your intention is to stay in Norway for less than 90 days. Applications for residence permits will always be forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration for decision. A decision from the Directorate of Immigration in Oslo can normaly be expected within time limits given by the Directorate. | | Reunification with spouse in Norway | If you are married to a Norwegian and intend to stay in Norway for more than 90 days, you are advised to apply for an entry visa. New regulations have been issued regarding required documentation from the norwegian spouse. An entry visa will normally be issued after four weeks provided the Directorate of Immigration does not have any objections. |
